The EU plastics recycling industry is in dire need for a revitalisation.

To support a level playing field for EU recyclers, the EU Commission unveiled a first set of circularity package ahead of the upcoming Circular Economy Act, expected by the end of 2026

What does this package entail

  • New harmonised rules, common quality criteria to create a level playing field across the Single Market.
  • New rules for calculating, verifying, and reporting recycled content in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) single-use plastic beverage bottles will  for the first time, cover chemically recycled content.
  • New customs codes to distinguish imports of recycled materials from virgin plastics. Stricter monitoring of imports and audits of recycling installations outside the EU

Returning back to Amsterdam  for the 2nd series,  CMT Events is pleased to announce the New EU Regulations on Plastics Packaging & Recycling to be held on the 4th of May, prior to PRSE

Key highlights of the conference

  • latest EU regulatory developments impacting plastics packaging and recycling, with a focus on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and upcoming enforcement risks ahead of August 2026
  • the regulatory pathway for chemically recycled plastics in food packaging, and the compliance challenges surrounding recycled plastics in EU food contact applications.
  • NIAS assessment using semi-quantitative screening methods to support consumer safety and a packaging producer’s experience on NIAS with their packaging
  • A panel of non-EU suppliers will share practical perspectives on regulatory challenges
  • Recyclass and certification company KIWA will address recyclability, and traceability of recycled plastic content

Find out more on how the EU regulations on plastics packaging, recycling and food contact are evolving which will impact your business.
