State of the Art decoration solution for molded fiber.
In 2016, Van Dam started with the development of a new decorator for molded fiber cups.
The handling of Molded Fiber and the printing on this substrate were a challenge but together with our partners we have achieved success.
To avoid damage to the cup surface, the print tower is made conical, so there is minimum friction between the cup and the blanket. To collect loose fibers a vacuum system is incorporated, and special blankets and printing plate materials are selected to repelling dust.
Because of the relatively open structure of molded fiber traditional dry offset printing technology is not able to transfer sufficient ink to meet the required color densities. By introducing our patented FDoR® printing technology, we are able to transfer the correct amount of ink with higher value anilox rolls (conical too) to meet the required color strength.
The above developments made the Van Dam FlexoCon and FlexoCup the first and only printers which are able to decorate molded fiber cups at high speed.
