Beni Suryadi is a Fellow at the Energy for Growth Hub. He is the Manager of the Power, Fossil Fuel, Alternative Energy and Storage of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), an intergovernmental organisation within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), that builds a coherent, coordinated, focused and robust energy policy agenda and strategy for member states. Beni leads studies to provide policy recommendations on enhancing power connectivity and market integration in the region He led the work on the development of the 6th ASEAN Energy Outlook, the ASEAN Interconnection Masterplan Study, and the ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project.

Boosting REC demand from data centres for carbon neutrality

 Ir. Nirinder Singh Johl, is a professional electrical engineer, who has served Malaysia’s national utility company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in multitude portfolios with distinction and charm for more than 36 years since 1986.

Upon graduation from University Technology Malaysia (UTM), he embarked on a pathbreaking career as an Electrical Distribution Engineer coveringthe frontline for 15 years in Peninsular Malaysia before migratingtoTNB’s Distribution Headquarters to be in charge of its Customer Service Division for a decade, constantly engaging and listening toover 9 million customersbefore accelerating up the corporate ladder as TNB's General Manager Customer Service in 2010.

Nirinder , also holds a Master’s in Business Management (MBA) degree from the University of Bath , that allowed him to fast-track and strategically master indepth expertise in other equally significant areas of the utility business , namely in Transmission, Generation , Strategic Corporate Communications, International Business during the subsequent years.

Nirinder served as the Managing Director of TNBX Sdn Bhd, a wholly ownedsubsidiary of TNB formed in 2019 to venture into the non- regulated business aka beyond the meter business over the last 3 years and just retired in early June 2022.

Under Nirinder’s leadership, TNBX has pioneered a platitude of innovative breakthroughs including solar energy contracting with utility billing (SARE) , I-REC branded Renewable Energy Certificates for Malaysia (mREC) , both in bundled and unbundled RECs and on many moreenergy efficiency projects. The highly successful track record of TNBX speaks volume of the leadership qualities of Nirinder.

Although Nirinder retired from TNBX this June, 2022, he would still be actively involved in the utility business with his new found passion in Renewable Energy and will continue exploring and developing exciting new frontiers in the ASEAN market.

Prannoy is an Associate Director at the Carbon Trust’s Singapore office. His work is focused on supporting corporates on sustainability strategies. He is advising corporates across the Southeast Asia region in their sustainability strategy and journey. This includes a systematic process of carbon footprinting across the value chain, target setting (SBTi, Net Zero), identification and quantification of climate-change related risks and opportunities (TCFD), assurance & labelling, climate leadership framework, etc.

Prior to joining the Carbon Trust, Prannoy worked in the industry for around 13 years. Where he was developing and offering a variety of bespoke sustainable solutions to corporate customers for their environmental sustainability needs.

Prannoy holds a Master’s degree in environmental engineering from Singapore Stanford Partnership program. He is also an engineer by training.

Muhammad Rizal Azmi has close to two decades of experience across power, renewables and sustainability. Starting as a production engineer, he transitioned to business development at Malakoff Corporation, Malaysia’s largest power producer. Between 2015-2017, he undertook a passion project in organic farming, before returning to corporate business development roles. This includes venturing into the district cooling sector under the ENGIE Group, and eventually the solar sector under Plus Xnergy.

Rizal’s foray into the carbon industry started with him joining Bureau Veritas, a leading carbon validation & verification body (VVB). He currently heads the Business Development and Sales unit at Bursa Carbon Exchange (BCX), playing a key role in shaping the future of voluntary carbon and renewable energy certificates (RECs) trading. Rizal is an engineering graduate of University Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and holds a MicroMasters in Sustainable Energy from University of Queensland.

Sara is an experienced Data Centre Operations Director with over 18 years of experience in Data Centre / Critical Environment / Facilities Management and Project Management industry.

He joined Iron Mountain Data Centers in March 2019, and has been responsible for the overall operations of Iron Mountain Data Center in Singapore and India, ensuring zero downtime ever since.

Sara has demonstrated strong leadership and support to staff and teams, proficient in Data Centre Management, facilities management, project management and budgeting skills, problem solving, cost saving, energy saving, and the standardization of business and operational procedures. He provides his client base with strategic solutions to ensure that facilities and contracts are maximized and operational delivery exceeds expectations.

Prior to joining IMDC, Sara held positions in CBRE and Cofely FMO – ENGIE (Formerly Keppel FMO) as Critical Facility Manager for various data center accounts, as well as Business Development.

Sara holds a Master’s in Business Administration from Alagappa University, India, and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics from Annamalai University, India. He is also a Singapore Certified Energy Manager.

Beyond PUE: Real estate’s role in decarbonizing the data centre lifecycle

James is a subject matter expert in data centre design and delivery, having delivered projects in over 14 countries and 3 continents, often with diverse and remote teams. During his data centre career, he has carried out due diligence reports and feasibility studies, white space fit outs, refurbishments, migrations and new build projects.

 The client base for these projects have been enterprise organisations, co-location providers and hyperscale owner/operators. He has been closely involved with the campus planning of large hyperscale facilities along with the test fits for template design on sites. He is a specialist in early works, delivering ‘shovel ready’ developments as well as bringing project through to final completion. Within the data centre community, he has lead specialist interest groups for companies and speaks regularly at international conferences on a variety of data centre subjects. He is a published author of the ‘Bytes, Watts and Carbon’ newsletter on LinkedIn.

Dmitriy Nikolaychik is a highly accomplished Operations and Technology expert who holds a degree in Software Development from Minsk State Polytechnic University in Belarus. With over two decades of experience in the Telecom and ICT industry, he has established himself as an experienced practitioner who has made significant contributions worldwide.

Dmitriy began his professional journey as an operations and maintenance engineer at MDC Ltd, a Belarusian firm. He then proceeded to work with various organisations in Belarus and Russia, honing his skills and expanding his expertise. In 2006, he joined Azerfon LLC, a prominent mobile network operator in Azerbaijan, where he served as the Network Operations Director. This marked the beginning of his international involvement, which extended to diverse companies and projects throughout the Caucasus, Central Asia, Asia, and Africa.

Throughout his career, Dmitriy has been instrumental in several notable initiatives. He played a pivotal role in successfully launching the third 2G/3G operator in Azerbaijan, overseeing the construction of Core/RAN networks during the initial phase of development in Congo and Sierra Leone, and introducing innovative green power supply solutions in Tajikistan to significantly enhance RAN availability.

Prior to his current position at irix, Dmitriy returned to Belarus to lead the Cloud and ICT infrastructure division of UE A1, where he actively contributed to the company's digital transformation efforts. Tze Meng graduated with a BSc(Eng) in Computer Engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London in 1986 and has been in the IT industry for more than 36 years. He had roles in data communications, electronics design, and software development in his early career.

In 1988 he started a career with Telekom Malaysia’s IT Division and was involved in TM’s data centre deployments and OSS capacity planning. In 1994 he was recruited into a special team which resulted in the launch of TMnet in 1996. In 2000 he left his role of managing TMnet’s international networks to lead a data centre consulting startup which was contracted to design a data centre in Cyberjaya and secure two major local banks’ Internet banking facilities. The dotcom crash and decline of the DC industry in the late 90s prompted Tze Meng to venture into another startup in the Apple enterprise support business In 2003.

In 2007 the prospect of guiding MSC Malaysia’s infocomms strategy and policy brought him to MDeC. Today he heads the Digital Infrastructure Department, which is responsible for the development of the digital infrastructure industry in Malaysia through the facilitation key components such as data centres, cloud, terrestrial and submarine connectivity as well as related enablers (water, power, renewable energy, policies, regulations and legislation). Since the end of 2023, the new focus is on facilitating the infrastructure to meet the demands of artificial intelligence.

Alvin Chew is Senior Fellow at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. Datuk Ir. Abdul Kadir Mohd Din has more than 40 years of industry experience in the water and sewerage sectors. His main expertise is on conceptual and strategic business planning and management on water, wastewater, byproducts, green technology, research & development and environment including risk management and optimization & maximization of operation cost.

He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from UiTM, Shah Alam and graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland. Datuk Ir. Abdul Kadir is a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM), ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineer (ACPE) and Chartered Engineer with the Institution of Civil Engineers, UK (MICE).

He has vast exposure in the engineering consultancy, public listed company, government owned National Water Asset Company and sewerage company at various senior management positions. He has extensive practical knowledge in planning, designing, managing water and sewerage works projects within the country and abroad in the United Kingdom, Brunei Darussalam, Middle East and Singapore. He was elected as President of The Malaysian Water Association (MWA) in April 2017 (2017-2019 and 2019-2021), President o ENSEARCH (2024/25), and Network Manager of Aquajaring – Eight SEA countries (Jun 2020 – December 2021). He had served as Board of Directors for Pengurusan Air Pahang (Jan 2023/25), Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd (2018 to May 2020) and Ranhill Water Technologies (Thai) Ltd & Anurak Water Treatment Facilites Co Ltd (July 2017/18) . Prior to this appointment, he was the former Chief Executive Officer of Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK), a National Sewerage Company wholly owned by the Minister of Finance incorporated from 1 December 2009 – 30 November 2016. He was the former Chief Operating Officer with Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB), Malaysia’s Water Asset Management Company, which is also wholly owned by the Minister of Finance incorporated, from February 2007 to November 2009.

He is also a Chairman of Malaysian Water Academy Sdn Bhd (2017-2021), Alumni Member of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), and member of various professional institutions which includes: Fellow of Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (FIEM), member of Malaysian Water Association (MWA), Environmental Management of Research Associate of Malaysia (ENSEARCH), Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP) and Malaysian Capacity Development Network for Sustainable Water Management (MyCDNet), Fellow of Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) since May 2018, and Water Environment Federation (WEF), United States. Abhishek Srivastava first joined ADL Dubai in 2011 following the completion of his MBA and moved to work with the Singapore team in February 2020. Abhishek has worked on a variety of strategy and organization-related topics across sectors such as Telecom, Automotive, and Healthcare.

Within the TIME practice, he mainly focuses on GTM strategy, portfolio design, commercial strategy, and regulatory strategy as well as on commercial due diligence and the business impact of emerging techno-commercial trends. In this regard, Abhishek has been leading the ADL TIME practice in Southeast Asia over the last few months. Abhishek is working actively to grow two main TIME practice platforms – Telecom – with MNOs, MVNOs, and Regulators in the region and TaE (TIME as Enabler).

In addition, Abhishek has been supporting the development of ICM on a number of topics such as CPaaS, AI, and Digital Transformation. Abhishek has helped to develop and cultivate major accounts within the TIME sector in Southeast Asia. Further to this, his contribution to developing the ADL Indonesia setup has been vital, leading successful projects for new accounts.

Abhishek holds an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and a master's degree in Mathematics and Scientific Computing from IIT Kanpur. Prior to ADL Abhishek worked with BCG as Project Leader and Infosys as Project Manager.
